Abergavenny Juniors Hockey
The development of the junior section of the club is one of the top priorities of the club. Not only does it feed the senior teams in years to come, but also in the past has had it's own successes in Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15 competitions.
The junior section of the club is open to boys and girls who can safely conduct themselves with a hockey stick in their hand! Usually this means from age 9 and above, school year 5. This is not a hard and fast rule and is very much down to the individual and parental choice.
There is no formal upper age limit on the junior section; older players naturally move up into the senior training, perhaps from age 14 and above. But again it all very much depends on the individual.
Overall co-ordinator of the junior section is Rebecca Bushrod who will be assisted by at least 5 other senior members to be available for match days and training nights.
The season 2009-10 sees teams entered into the following competitions:
Under 9 (mixed)
Under 11 (mixed)
Under 13 boys
Under 13 girls
Under 15 boys
Under 17 boys
Although this can be amended should extra numbers join the club, it's a flexible approach.
Training continues at 7pm at the Leisure Centre Astroturf pitch. No training in school holdays.
Update 8th Feb 2010
Please take note of some important dates for your diaries. Initially these being 14th March 2010 (Mother's Day - sorry) and 21st March 2010. This is when the South Wales Cup tournament is taking place in Swansea.
On the 14th, starting at 10.00, both Under 13 Girls teams will be participating, and at 1pm the Under 13 Boys will be competing. Both sections will be hoping to progress through to the finals on 18th April 2010.
On the 21st, starting at 10.00, the U9's and U11's will be competing. This is actually the finals day itself for the U9's, and the U11's will be competing for a chance to join the U13's at the same venue, on 18th April too.
