Abergavenny Juniors Hockey
The development of the junior section of the club is one of the top priorities of the club. Not only does it feed the senior teams in years to come, but also in the past has had it's own successes in Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15 competitions.
The junior section of the club is open to boys and girls who can safely conduct themselves with a hockey stick in their hand! Usually this means from age 9 and above, school year 5. This is not a hard and fast rule and is very much down to the individual and parental choice.
There is no formal upper age limit on the junior section; older players naturally move up into the senior training, perhaps from age 14 and above. But again it all very much depends on the individual.
Overall co-ordinator of the junior section is Rebecca Bushrod who will be assisted by at least 5 other senior members to be available for match days and training nights.
The season 2009-10 sees teams entered into the following competitions:
Under 9 (mixed)
Under 11 (mixed)
Under 13 boys
Under 13 girls
Under 15 boys
Under 17 boys
Although this can be amended should extra numbers join the club, it's a flexible approach.
Training continues at 7pm at the Leisure Centre Astroturf pitch. No training in school holdays.
